The best-known radio transmission is probably 'Mayday', that signifies a vessel is in trouble and there is an immediate, grave danger for the yacht and the life of the crew. But what is the right way to effect a radio communication?
In this important course we show you the correct procedures for calling a radio medical centre (MEDICO) or rescue coordination centre (MRCC), the proper use of charter-ready PLBs, and AIS-SARTs, EPIRBs and SART – and of course, the right way to effect a Mayday and Pan Pan radio transmission via DSC (Digital Selective Calling). You also learn everything about LRC (GMDSS sea area A2–4 – medium and surface waves, INMARSAT) and SRC (GMDSS sea area A1–UKW).
For anyone who wants to know more about the topic of radio communications, there is the opportunity to complete the GMDSS certification.
